This is My Lovely Wife:  My Lovely Wife and I live in Brooklyn with  I work in Manhattan; my job is so square that it's cool... I sell antique maps. I can't ever leave this job, really, so I'll probably never go on tour with my music... Not any more than a week or so, anyhow. I play bass, and my guitar is gradually improving. I write my own material, which I'm gradually getting up to my website, The James Rocket. It's rock, of various stripes. I've had people that I respect deeply tell me they liked it, so hey. Meanwhile I'm playing bass in a band which, until recently, was called Saint Bastard, and is now called A Bunch Of Girls. We have played in New York and Boston. And New Paltz. And Seattle, and Portland, and Vancouver, and McKinleyville, and San Francisco, And LA. Of us, it was said: "As soon as St. Bastard start, I am enthralled by their thick, filthy tone. That they are employing this raunchy, radioactive sonic sludge on a Kraftwerk cover doesn't hurt, either. Alas, it's all downhill from there. It turns out that that's the only tone they have, and they just flog it to death, while shouting. The inconsistent drumming is also a problem for me, and they kind of lurch painfully through every transition in any song. But there are some nice moments later on in the set, when the underlying chord progressions are oddly pretty, which sets up a pleasant contrast with the sludgy sound." Granted, that was our second show. Fella A producer friend of mine, without rancour, calls us "Barf Rock." One can't be picky. But the drummer can, and ironically, he's the one that left. We have been playing with a fantastic drummer, who gives us what's left of his time after his own band. It's good enough for now. I used to roleplay a lot. I haven't had time nowadays with the music. I still have my books, so if the music goes south I always have Traveller and Tunnels & Trolls to fall back on. My wife used to ride and wrench a '73 Honda CB750, but she's been slammed for time with teaching, so we let it go. When things get sorted, we'll get her a dual-sport. Did I mention we have five cats? And a kitten? Sugar's awesome. She gets me the best birthday/Hanumas/anniversary presents EVER. Here's one:  Gotta post the others. We both gotta hit the gym more often but she looks like a million bucks no matter what she says. I like gin. Especially small-batch and microdistillery gin. I mix the world's best gimlet and I'm on a quest to find the proper mix for "Baby Bear's Martini." So far it looks like it's made with eight parts of either Plymouth or Juniper Green, to one part Vya, shaken, with a twist. This is subject to change. | |||||
